Tented Safari Camping –
a Part of our Leopard Safari Experience

Experience tented camping like you have never had before! Our campsite is located adjacent to the boundary of the Yala National Park. The campsite has been set up with mobile safari tents – meaning they are not permanent structures, and have minimal impact on the environment – that includes a holistic experience. A fully-equipped kitchen, several dining areas, hammocks, flushable toilets, and showers are all part of the campsite. You can even sit back and enjoy a cold beer at any time of the day while at camp.

We offer premium amenities such as freshly laundered towels, raincoats, and casual slippers. We ensure that all food is freshly prepared at our campsite in a mobile kitchen that has heating and cooling facilities.

We customise our menus to suit our guests, and ensure that professional chefs are in charge of the gastronomical side of things. Our signature dishes have been specially designed to tantalise your taste buds and leave you wanting for more.

In the evening, a post-safari barbecue dinner will be set up around a campfire. The wilderness setting makes it a magical experience. The campsite will be lit using traditional flame torches, and the roaring campfire adds the perfect ambience for a special meal. All you need to worry about it relaxing, having a chat with the staff and other guests, and feasting on the delectable food that is on offer. We will make sure your every need is catered to.

Evening Safaris at Yala National Park –
a unique experience

Yala National Park is the most celebrated wildlife reserve in Sri Lanka. Although renowned for its biodiversity and its unique geography that includes a coastline and associated coral reefs, the biggest draw to its borders is the Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya). Yala National Park has the highest density of wild leopards in the world, and is therefore the best place in which to view these big cats. The national park is also home to some remnants of civilisations that thrived there millennia ago, with indicators of the area being inhabited before the forest took back its land.

Leopards, like most big cats, are nocturnal, so the best chance that you will get in seeing one is early in the morning or at dusk. Male leopards in the Yala National Park have grown to be confident and are often seen walking along tracks even during the day. Young males seem to have no fear of jeeps, leading to some of the best opportunities to photograph these majestic cats. It is theorised that this lack of fear is due to the conservation efforts taken by the authorities leading to leopards being revered and protected by naturalists, jeep drivers, and all visitors to the national park. The campsite is located very close to the national park; therefore we can guarantee that you will be the first to arrive in its core areas that are the best for wildlife viewing. You will also avoid long travel times to the park entrance, and queueing for permits to enter the park. You will also be the last to leave, as we give you a safari experience that lasts as long as is permitted. Furthermore, the drive from the campsite to the entrance of the national park also resembles a mini-safari to get you in the mood for the real thing.

Leopards may take the headlines, but there is a large number of other species that live inside the Yala National Park. The park is home to a large population of Sri Lankan elephants, who can be seen either grazing or bathing around watering holes that can be found throughout. Among other species of mammal are spotted deer, sambhar deer, wild boar, water buffalo, sloth bears, Jackals, wild rabbits, and mongoose. Yala is also one of the best bird watching locations in Sri Lanka. From the confines of the jeep, you will see several species of birds, including Rosy Starlings, Paradise Flycatchers, Crested Hawk Eagles, Blue-tailed Bee Eaters, Common Ioras and many others.

Back at the Campsite

Head back to the campsite and freshen up. You will feel as if you are coming back into another world, as the campsite takes on its evening hues, being lit by torches. Stretch your weary legs, relax, and let your stress evaporate as you lie under a canopy of a million twinkling stars.

Dinner and Overnight Stay at the Leopard Safari Campsite

Meal times at the campsite are always special experiences. Dinner could be served in a unique setting under the stars, even away from other guests for a more private, intimate setting overlooking the park. Lunch could be set up under the trees in a jungle setting.

Our Barbecue dinners are all the more special owing to the magical ambiance we provide.

Day 2 – Departure from Leopard Safari in Yala National Park

Morning Safaris at Yala National Park begin as early as 6:00 am as you have to get to the national park as the sun rises to get the best chances at sighting animals – especially Leopards – that roam the park. This three-hour safari gives you a chance to see the nocturnal animals going back to their resting places and the diurnal (day-dwelling) animals coming to life with the morning sun. A three-hour safari will give you great opportunities to see all this activity. Breakfast awaits at the campsite, with our resident chefs providing you with a sumptuous spread.

This is the end of the tour.
